Used
starter motors are ghastly beasts! We've been asked about
these by some of you trying to keep your costs down so
we'll do this until the grief outweighs the
benefits.
These
are NOT starters from our core return pile. These were
pulled off of roadsters that were parted out ostensibly
for other reasons than a bad starter. The only thing we
can say about them is that we put 12 volts to them while
they were mounted to an engine, and they turned the
engine over. Whether they will survive being carried from
the shop to the warehouse I don't know. They have
absolutely no guarantee, warranty, whatever, of ANY kind,
other than they will be excellent for use holding a tarp
down. They may function .0001 seconds or 10 years, all I
can say is they functioned OK when I tried them on our
test engine.
They
usually are filthy, rusty, corroded, discolored, greasy
and half full of oil as they usually were during use. I
wouldn't even bother to put a used starter on an engine,
what with the hassle of the job. Of course that's partly
due to the fact that I have lost the use of my younger
proteges (who got smart and left) and I'd have to do the
job MYSELF.
Although
we've tested these on an engine, we are so sure you'll be
discouraged when you look at one of these, we aren't even
taking charge cards for them. Only cash on the barrel
head will be accepted (OK, checks and money orders).
Don't
delay, our scrap metal guy keeps eyeballing
these...
We
will only ship one of these within the '48
states.
So...is
this the most discouraging advertisement you've ever
seen? I hope so! Buy a nice NEW or REBUILT one! (or one
of these...)
