Sometimes
during the years a part is manufactured the tooling wears
out or get's out of adjustment. Usually quality control
people keep track of this and repair as necessary.
Sometimes the manufacturer will change subcontractors
without carefully looking at the new preproduction
samples. The result is a part that looks OK to the
untrained eye but has a problem.
Such
is the case with the 68-70 Hood Mouldings that Nissan has
been selling since about 1986. The bent down ends are
farther apart which makes installing the moulding
difficult to say the least. I've done it but it wasn't
fun. I put the ends on first, tilted the center of the
moulding rearward and then used my ample ballast to push
down until I could get the middle to go over the hood
scoop edge. Needless to say it's not going to blow off. I
definitely would not try this trick with new
paint.
Sometimes
we have both the Original (#658-05-O) production
mouldings and the New Production (#658-05N) mouldings.
The Original's are the ones that fit as is.
