This is a drop-in replacement in a 3 main R-1600 engine. Engine size is increased from 1595 to 1770cc. Requires the use of shorter rods, which are included. Availability on new or used rods and new or used crankshafts varies. We recommend you also use flat top pistons to minimize compression ratio problems if you have a head that has been cut a lot (over about .060", original thickness was 3.248") you should even consider dished pistons. Inquire as to availability at time of order and condition of used cranks. Although a long stroke engine that still has the stock cam is a nice powerplant, you can see more benefit, mostly in the upper RPM ranges, by using a higher performance cam. Making sure the distributor advance is working correctly, while recommended for all cars, is absolutely required with this setup if you don't want pieces of the pistons melting away!!! Do the simple stuff first. |
