In about 1980 Nissan started manufacturing emblems out of plastic. Initially this didn't seem a very positive idea until we noticed how well the chrome held up. Some of the emblems on parts cars we have are approaching 25 years old an the chrome is still intact and nice looking. This cannot be said for the metal emblems which will over time tend to pit. Unless both emblems are in your hand you cannot tell the difference by looking at them.
