1600
Long Stroke Crank
Originally
designed for a Nissan truck in Japan, this is a drop-in
replacement in a 5 main R-1600 engine. Engine size is
increased from 1595 to 1982cc, a 24% gain. The longer a
crankshaft's stroke, the shorter the rods have to be if used
in the same block. This crankshaft requires the use of
either Nissan Industrial "H20" rods, which we sometimes
have, or the U20 rods from a 2000 roadster engine. We
recommend you also use flat top pistons to minimize
compression ratio problems. If you have a head that has been
cut a lot (over about .060", original thickness was 3.248")
you should even consider dished pistons. Inquire as to
availability at time of order. You'll also have to modify
the skirts of your old domes if you plan on trying to use
them. The 2000 pistons have short skirts so the crank throws
don't hit them.
Although
a long stroke engine that still has the stock carbs and cam
is a nice powerplant, you can see more benefit, mostly in
the upper RPM ranges, by using a higher performance cam. You
can also consider mounting some 2000 SU's.
Recurving
or replacing the distributor, while recommended for all
cars, is absolutely required with this setup if you don't
want pieces of the pistons melting away!!! Do the simple
stuff first.
